VCIP on Poultry Production

This VCIP is developed to achieve an average liveweight yield of 2.5kg at 6weeks for the broilers raised as against 2.2kg hitherto realized at 8weeks by the farmers. The farmers are thus able to do 4cycles of production annually. A higher profit and return on investment are thus realized by the farmers. Their current scale of production of 174,500 broiler chickens per annum will also be increased to 218,800 broiler chickens per annum (25.39% increase) through the proposed business alliance and technical intervention of the APPEALS Project.

Technology Demonstration on farm operations, using motorized hand-held cutter and harvesting equipment for Rice, Tomato and Wheat.

The three 3-day technology demonstration was conducted to 600 farmers across all value chains of rice, tomato and wheat, out of which 300 farmers (male: 256, female: 44) were from rice production. The demonstration showed the use of rice/wheat cutting machine etc. A total of 150 farmers (male: 87, female: 63) were drawn from tomato production, they were shown the use of weeding machine.

Tomato Production Technology Demonstration

A total of Fifty (50 No.) co-operative group leaders from various Local Government Areas of Kano State were selected to benefit from the training/demonstration. This is made up of twenty-one (21 No.) mixed group of tomato processors; ten (10 No.) women group leaders of wheat flour processors represented by Dala cluster of Gurasa (Local bread) processing women co-3 operative groups; thirteen (13 No.) wheat crop farmers; and six (6 No.) rice crop farmers.

Rice parboiling and processing are among the most important income generating activities carried out by women in Kano State. Women process but on a small scale even though it is profitable and rice has a wide market but the parboiling and milling of the rice is not properly done. To bring the women to a stage of competitive advantage it was necessary to train these women on how to improve on this important activity.
