Needs Assessment of People With Disability under the APPEALS Project, Kano State

This study assesses the needs of People with Disability as part of the Agro-Processing, Agricultural Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support Project (APPEALS) in Kano State, Nigeria. The study explores PWDs’ needs in land and non-land-based income generating activities. To understand the needs of PDWs members, the study used a mix of internationally recognized qualitative and quantitative research methods to capture their current knowledge and the importance they place on different agricultural practices, and to understand what the best and most efficient tools are for transmitting agricultural knowledge. Converting Waste to Wealth: Opportunities from Crops Production and Processing

Production and processing of food as a process requires the use of valuable and scarce resources. Such resources include; land, water, organic and inorganic inputs, energy and biodiversity etc. The potential to produce cereals such as rice maize and vegetables such as tomato is enormous in Kano State. TOMATO Greenhouse Technology Demonstration in collaboration with NIHORT and TERRA-TIGA

A three-day demonstration on greenhouse installation and Practices was conducted to 350 (200 Males: 150 Females) farmers at Bagauda Fisheries institute (Demo plot Site). Among them were 5 people with disability. The participants were enlightened on the numerous benefits of greenhouse technology, the profit to be accrued and Maximum number of plants it can comfortably contain. He further stated that the tunnel size (24 x 8m) contains 6 beds of 2 rows making 12 rows. The intra-row spacing of 60cm will give a plant population of 480.
